Who We Serve
Fire & Energy Consulting provides licensed fire protection engineering and risk consulting with a specialist focus on the technologies that traditional practice struggles to keep up with. Services range from stamped design through high-level advisory and independent expert analysis. Engagements can be scoped as a single review or as ongoing support across a project's life.
What We Offer
-
Battery energy storage is one of the fastest-moving and most heavily scrutinized areas in fire protection today. Getting a system approved means satisfying NFPA 855, demonstrating performance against UL 9540A test data, and answering hard questions about thermal runaway and fire propagation before an authority having jurisdiction signs off.
This is the core of the practice. Services include code compliance evaluation under NFPA 855, interpretation and application of UL 9540A large-scale fire test results, thermal runaway and propagation analysis, deflagration and explosion venting review under NFPA 68 and NFPA 69, hazard mitigation analysis, and direct coordination with AHJs and fire departments to bring projects across the finish line.
-
Some questions can't be answered by a code table or a hand calculation. When a design pushes past standard practice, computational modeling provides a physics-based, defensible basis for the decision, and a clear way to demonstrate performance to owners, insurers, and authorities having jurisdiction.
The practice uses two of the industry's most respected tools. Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) models fire growth, heat release, and smoke movement for performance-based design, smoke control, and tenability analysis. FLACS models gas dispersion, deflagration, and vapor cloud explosions, the kind of analysis that becomes essential when flammable gas release and thermal runaway drive the hazard.
That second capability is particularly relevant to battery energy storage, where understanding how vented gases accumulate and behave can be the difference between a system that gets approved and one that doesn't. Modeling can support deflagration venting design under NFPA 68 and 69, validate ventilation strategies, and give plan reviewers the evidence they need.
-
When a project meets an unusual code question, the fix is rarely in the code book alone. Fire & Energy Consulting provides code analysis, plan review support, variance and alternative-means documentation, and hands-on coordination with authorities having jurisdiction. The goal is simple: resolve the open questions early so they don't become expensive surprises later.
-
Good decisions start with an honest picture of the risk. Services include fire and explosion hazard analysis, consequence evaluation, and risk assessments that give owners, insurers, and design teams the technical grounding to make confident calls, especially on emerging systems where the data is new and the stakes are high.
-
Some spaces can't be protected by ordinary sprinklers. Data halls, electrical rooms, energy storage enclosures, and similar high-value or high-hazard areas call for engineered suppression. The practice provides design and independent review of clean agent, water mist, and high-momentum suppression systems, matching the technology to the hazard and verifying that the design will actually perform when it matters.
-
When fire, explosion, or energy storage failures end up in dispute, attorneys need an expert who can analyze the evidence and explain it clearly. Fire & Energy Consulting offers independent technical investigation, written reports, and testimony grounded in licensed engineering judgment and a working command of the relevant codes and standards.Item description

A fire alarm system is only as good as the engineering behind it. Fire & Energy Consulting delivers complete NFPA 72 fire alarm and detection design, from early concept and basis-of-design through fully stamped construction documents. The result is a system that performs as intended, satisfies the code, and moves through plan review without avoidable delays.
